Tony gets his flypast!

Post by reaper493 » Tue Jan 22, 2019 8:56 am

Morning all,

not sure if you have been following this story, but there will be an F15 flypast over the 'Mi Amigo' Memorial in Endcliffe park, Sheffield on the morning of Friday the 22nd Feb, as confirmed on BBC breakfast this morning.

i can't find a link to an article yet, but great news!

I expect it will be a busy one!!

The USAF and Air Cadets will be in attendance, not sure if the RAF will be....

Having watched this interview this morning I would suggest somewhat more than just an F15, as Commanders from 100ARW/7SOS and RAF Coningsby were also interviewed indicating(but not confirmed) possible KC135/C130/Typhoon and F15
Whatever is put up(subject to weather) a great achievement for Tony and Sheffield city council and the BBC for bringing it to the countries attention , and well done US Embassy/Ambassador, USAFE/48FW/100ARW for taking up the request for a flypast

The only worry I have, having attended the memorial service in the past, is the distinct lack of space.

The memorial is small, with the a narrow path down one side, the rest of it is on a wooded hill side, so if the parade is by the memorial, space will be limited, and the flypast may not be visible.

My dad is leading the Air Cadet contingent at the parade, so hopefully he will get some info soon.

fingers crossed!!

I watched it on BBC Breakfast this morning, very interesting part of the programme, It may be available to watch on BBC I-Player. I also got the impression it was possibly going to be more than one F15.

The BBC website says that the flypast will consist of a Dakota, Ospreys, F15s and Typhoons. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-s ... e-46958696

Pitty they could not get Duxfords Sally B over the memorial... what better tribute than that.

Thanks MRRT

That would explain it... shame... would have been a fitting tribute for the crew, their families and of course Tony.

Tonight's CBS Evening News has shown an interview with Tony at the site of the memorial, and recounted the loss of the 'Mi Amigo', so the story is now out over the whole USA. Congrats to Tony and Dan and all others involved for their hard work, and good luck (and good weather) for the Sunday event.

BBC Breakfast News said that the nephew of the pilot (I think) of the B17 has sent his appreciation of Tony's dedication.

I watched Breakfast time last Tuesday and the piece about Tony brought a tear to my eye, Top Bloke.
