That's television for you. Not half as much action as you might imagine, and when we do, it's the same damned helicopter again and again!

Hi,
Ian from Bedfordshire here, a brand new member and living a stone's throw from RAF Henlow. Been interested in aircraft for as longs as I can remember. Interest grew from listening to my grandfather talk of his days in the RFC/RAF/Imperial Airways. Used to go around the bases photting until the early nineties when apart from airshows, I concentrated on my other photographic interests. Just getting back into going round the bases but of course fewer bases and fewer squadrons these days. Particularly interested in things 92 Squadron, just a pity it doesn't have any aircraft in its current role.

After reading that, I suppose it only right I introduce myself to the newbies.
I am on the team as a mod, but my main area is the model section and as you can see I end all my posts with 'cheers, shaun' well thats my given name but viper will do. Ive been building kits for about 26 years so Ive just about got the gist of it (but theres still a lot to learn). I build mainly in 1/48th scale with a bit of 1/32nd thrown in.
So if there are any new members to FC who enjoy building model kits, please feel free to visit the model section. Its friendly and hopefully helpful to any new or existing builders out there.
We run group builds and competitions, with a new releases thread and reviews for all books-kits-detail sets.
I hope that answers the question

Hello everyone. I live in Horncastle and I am 70 years old. I retired in 2001 and moved to Lincolnshire from Ashford Middlesex. What a change!!
My interest in aircraft began when I was about 14 and decided I wanted to be a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm but when I was 15 thought that landing and taking off from a moving platform in the middle of an ocean was a pretty daft thing to do. Coventional fighter aircraft was the next obvious choice and a flying scholarship with the RAF was the way to go. Problem - my GCE results were not very good and was sent home from RAF Hornchurch after the first day of a three day assesment proceedure. At seventeen and a half I enlisted on a five year engagement in the RAF as a Radar Operator ( Air Defence Operator). Not quite the career I had envisaged, but I really enjoyed my time.
On demob a short time in an office and finally thirty five years with BEA/Brtitish Airways in Flight Operations and Aircraft Dispatch. Wonderful times.
Now spend time arround the local airfields - CBY, WAD with occasional trips to LAK, MIL. and a little bird watching. Like taking photos and usually quite pleased with the results - until I look on here that is!!
Best wishes to all

I have been looking at the photos on here what a talented bunch of people you are!! I managed to get some money of her that must be obayed for a DSLR, I got a canon 50d with a 18-55 is lens and a canon70-300 is usm lens are these ok to get me started ? any tips on settings would be gladly recieved.
I am going to Coningsby tomorrow to have a practice hope to see some of you there

Hi all. My interest in military aviation came from listening to my Dad's stories from the RAF in WWII. He was a navigator/bomb aimer on Baltimores and Bostons in North Africa and Italy. We went to the Biggin Hill Air Fairs and At Home days throughout the 60's until I was old enough to go on my own, Farnborough a few times too. I always thought he should've written a book but for every incredible or funny event there were plenty of dark moments and it troubled him to talk about them sometimes. My older brother collects all kinds of aeronautica, all RAF, specialising in flying clothing. I lost interest in my late teens after leaving the ATC and being rejected for commissioned aircrew by the RAF and discovering motorbikes, beer and wimmin but my interest was rekindled when by chance I helped restore a CASA352 and spent a season as ground crew on it. I've always enjoyed photography, mostly I cover concerts and festivals, not for a living sadly. Living in mid Kent and working in London means I rarely get anywhere near anything military and with 3 kids finding time is difficult but now I've seen some of the photography on here I'm really inspired and will make time next year to get to a decent show and/or a photocall or two.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Hello to you all,
I am hereby losing my Fighter Control virginity. Before I post anywhere, i thought I would say hi. I'm not new to forums as I regularly read or moderate on forums for all 3 of my main interests, football (the mighty Queens Park Rangers!), birding, and aviation.
My aircraft interest stems from being born under the flightpath of Farnborough airfield and my Dad (God rest his soul) dragging me to every Farnborough Airshow since birth in 68. Something i am eternally grateful for or I would never have seen the Blackbird scorching out of Hampshire. I actually love all types of aviation one way or another but nothing gets me going like a big hunk of military metal being thrown around in the air. I now live (as you may have guessed) within spitting distance of the UK Chinnys, and love it.
I take a fair few pics myself but dont go for number crunching. I thought I was quite a good photographer till I came on here!
Congratulations on a great forum, and I hope to be chatting to you all soon!
Paul

Hi Jem. I dont think I'll ever criticise Farnborough, because its dear to my heart and I love the diversity, and the fact that I can take a week off work and watch things displaying all week, but certainly the year I saw the Blackbird, there was a huge variety of shapes compared to now. It is etched in my memory though as my father said "remember you've seen that plane son, in a few years you'll be one of the lucky ones who can say - I was there".
