Wattisham - Wokka central.

Post by gary1701 » Thu Jul 30, 2020 10:11 pm

Gents,

Only managed to get a couple of hours in up the road this evening as work has now got back in the way unfortunately. Still, not a bad evening with all four Chinooks and two Pumas photographed in two hours, plus a few regulars.

Viper 1 and 2 coming out of the FARP down by the Western end and the Wattisham village gate.

One pair of Chinooks had departed North as I got there, and no sooner had I shot the Apaches the first was already returning for a refuel. 'Pegasus' was a solo.

Shortly followed by a Titan three ship.

All four refueled rotors running before departing back to Odiham as two pairs.

Lovely set Gary, saw the two Puma’s heading home as they flew by us with the cargo doors still open, at 19.05. Call sign showing as Ambush1 XW237 on 360, only one plotting.

Hi Harry,

I was just checking back on your post to see what day you were going. I'm in Ipswich during the day so don't see first hand what's going on but when I got home this evening I was told that there didn't appear to have been much activity out of Wattisham today. That's the advantage of being just a few minutes away, as I can make a quick decision to go or not. At least with the bases long term future now confirmed - that seems to have slipped under the radar with the Mildenhall news - there should be many years of the AH-64E to look forward to. Thanks gents for the kind words. I was driving from one end of the base to the other last night pretty much all the time and took a chance that the four arriving Chinooks would bank towards me as they turned onto 23 from their North Easterly approach to the field, and for once my instincts were right!

Blinding set of images. The first chinook image is the best of the set for me.

I visited on Wednesday
I can't complain too much as one of the Pumas was in and out and also a wildcat , you're definitely lucky with your close proximity
