B-52H Take-Offs at Fairford - 27/08/2020

Post by MikeWolf » Thu Aug 27, 2020 7:22 pm

My first time going to RAF Fairford today, quietly parked in car in the bomb drop site for about 3 hours with the rain pouring. Then when it died down our radio scanner spat into life that something was "clear to line up". Well everyone there was in for a smokey surprise as pair of B-52Hs made their way out. Glad managed to catch them departing before police moved everyone along a short time later for reasons unknown.

My telephoto is currently out of commission, so using a mid-range lens, but still glad to get something having driven from West London.

Nice shots. Close up would have lost the "feel" of the smokey take off.

Cracking shots! Always love to see B-52s.

My missus wants us to move to the Cotswolds in a few years so hopefully there'll still be deployments in future. I might look for houses not too far from Fairford, she can find out later there's an US air base a few miles away from the sleepy village 😂

Very nice images :thumb:

And much prefer those wider shots with a big plane like that and so much going on with smoke, etc.

Great shots, especially the first take off. Doesn't always have to be a telephoto shot :thumb:
