Angleholm 5/8/1995

Post by Gruncle 01 » Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:16 pm

Here are some scanned pictures I took at the Swedish Airshow held at Angleholm in 1995. This was just as they were in the process on swapping out the J35 and re-equiping with the J37.

Thanks for putting these up, some nice pics there. I've only been to one Swedish show and that was Satenas in 2006. Maybe one day I'll get to another one.

Great post. My first overseas airshow, flew direct to Angleholm with Airshow Express from Stansted on a BAC 1-11. Remember the J22 taxying along the crowd line and the mass launch of Drakens and them recovering in pairs. Wasn't that the J29's first airshow appearance after restoration?

Michael

One of my favourite shows of the 90's
What's not to like loads of Draken's
I was also on that flight from Stansted
Rules and Regs would stop a trip like that from happening today

I wonder how many other FC members were on that flight

I was on that bus trip as well, hell it was a long bum numbing journey, but as these great pictures show was well worth it.

Did have flight on 1-11, landing at Malmo for the show LJUNGBYHED the following year, which was delayed some what due to fog at Stansted.

I was another one on the BAC 111 to Angleholm.
Remember the made scrum for the only place on the crowd line where all the Draken's could be photographed as they turned off the runway.
Also the conversation in the office next day that I had been to Sweden for the day !!

We weren't on the plane - but we knew some that were. We made a 3 day trip of it, flying into Copenhagen. This allowed us to get on base at the "crack of sparrows" well before the 1-11 had landed. That meant we could get our names (plus some we knew who were on the plane) on the 'spotters bus' names list. At the appointed time, the scrum surged to get aboard the 3 busses to the Draken flightline. Then sat there for 15 minutes in the sweltering sun whilst the PAO decided what to do with 3 massively overloaded busses :-) Our names were on the list which at least meant we were at the front of the scrum, although I think they abandoned any attempt at name checking fairly quickly.

Eventually off we went and once on the other side we were allowed off the bus to photograph one half of the flight-line. My fading memory says 28 aircraft? There was an arbitrary (as far as we could discern) line beyond which there were armed guards dissuading attempts to get to the other half. Dunno why - perhaps these were armed aircraft for the flares display. Anyhow, after perhaps 20 minutes all back on the bus and back to the static, via a few Viggens parked over there too.

Happy days - Swedish shows in that era were excellent. Did Satenas, Karlsborg, Uppsala, Soderhamn, Lulea and Ostersund. Missed the Ronneby one but that was excellent too according to friends.

Sounds like great memories
I didn't know about the spotters bus and I saw the "bunfight" for the best place on the crowd line
So I found another spot and missed out on the perfect shots

Anyway When I got divorced my Ex Wife dumped all my Slides and Logs from the 80's and 90's

These photo's bring back great memories of the things we use to get up then
