Would we still be allowed to park up at the side of the road on the grass verges which leads upto the viewing area.
Many people park here when the viewing area is full and vehicles can still get past.
When I was there last September - and it was the busiest I have ever seen there - what seemed like a 100 cars were parked all along the verge you are talking about; seemingly from the burger van virtually all the way down to the main road.
At some point a Highways Agency vehicle arrived and the employees got out and took a number of photos of the situation and of the parking all along the verge. So obviously afterwards those photos were studied by local authorities - with presumably the view to do something about it for in future.

So it looks like the near end of viewing at Lakenheath for me and many others then who don't live local, especially when something interesting is there.
It's going to be a nightmare to enforce it.

This is it. If all these things get enforced, where are people supposed to park? Nobody turns up with the intention of parking on the verges as their first port of call, but if there is nowhere else available and you've travelled a long way, where are you to go?

Not heard as confirm as yet but I think no parking will be enforced on here too. Those verges were marked as ‘nature reserve’ years ago. Next deployment to LN going to be ‘interesting’ for parking methinks.

It’s about time they enforced no parking on the verge of the main (A1065) road though, before someone gets killed!
Very well said.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

There is a simple solution - take your bike and park somewhere else. I've done that before, works fine, and you get some exercise.

Can’t see ought wrong with parking on the road what leads Upto the viewing area.
Been there when it’s been packed with cars and vehicles still drive past ok and the people who use that private road don’t have any problems getting to and fro.
Ok the verges where people have parked in the past are a bit threadbare but surely the main area of special interest whatever it is has been blocked off.
And when the viewing area is full that’s the next safest place to park the verges.

It is wrong if parking is illegal. Not familiar with the law in this case despite being local. This is the whole problem - people parking where they want or think it is OK to do so. If you cannot park legally where you want then park somewhere else that is legal - breaking the law is no excuse. Forumites claim to be law-abiding citizens but that seems to go astray when some feel like it.

I’ve been driving down there from Lancashire for the last 30 odd years and have never seen any sign or been told not to park on the verge leading upto the viewing area.
If there was a sign etc telling me not to park I wouldn’t have.

I didn't say there was any signage - my point was if there is, and there may well be if previous posts' suggestions come to fruition. Only time will tell.

Only time will tell. I was there at the end of May last year to see the 12 departures of MOF15's on the Friday. I was amazed at the number of people there. I parked on the verge leading to the viewing area as the latter was full. Its going to be frustrating ,travelling from a distance ,only to find I can't park. Surely they could leave the lane alone. However the parking on the main road, or manouvering on and off the verges on there should be stopped. At least on safety grounds.
Powerslave, it may have been you I spoke to at Mildenhall, later that day, you were heading back to Wigan. Was that you ?
Cheers

Certainly looking at Google Maps there are signs on the A1065 indicating a clearway with no parking on the verge.

Really?? Try looking at Google Street View.

The signs - at both ends - only say it is a clearway for 4 miles and no other restrictions.

There is a Clearway repeater sign at the end of the runway [24 end] which says 'including verge', photo dated 2016

Yes really try looking at side of road in several places. An apology welcomed

Apology readily submitted.

In my defence - and I am not qualifying the apology at all - those signs are very sparse and not readily apparent when driving, being sideways on.

Aha!
Another driver who doesn’t carry a copy of the Highway Code in the car for quick reference ;)

Are you also suffering from my problem? My eyesight has started to fail. Years ago I could see round blind corners but now have to slow down ;)

Seriously though, when I started to follow this thread I was convinced that I had discussed it with a policeman who lead me to a sign. My memory being what it is I said nothing just in case I was wrong.

Park and ride would be handy.

But isn't that sign there on that side of the road so that nobody parks on the wide verges in front of the airfield fencing?
Or does it automatically account for both verges?

Can't see there being an issue parking on those verges if tucked up and sensible. Police are constantly up and down, and if they had an issue they will move people on.
