But seriously, when I went to toms field at mildenhall I believe its called, some people don't even pay the pay the pound it cost to go there
That'll be John's field at Mildenhall and I've heard the same about the occasional gits that don't bother to cough up their £1. :grr:

I think the Latin name for the rare plant is Spotterosi Pisiofius.

All i can say is, the Logs were supposed to be installed last year, as the verges are protected and a rare Wild Flower apparently grows on it, i personally think the verges are too far gone, ie worn down by Lorries carving grooves in them,( Last year, Contractors had a Map and Drawing then measured from the Base gate, all the way down to Wangford rd )
Let's hope they don't do it and spend the money on something else.
Thanks Zuluone. I'm with you on this one. Ironically, it can be the very act of the ground being churned by lorries that causes those wild flowers to germinate for the first time in living memory. Plant conifers two yards away and you'd never know the flowers were there to germinate...

Fairly sure there is no wild flower living on the verges anymore.
That’s the whole point of the fenced off area on the approach for the flowers.
Are they triffids or something?

John’s field was £1.50 per person when it wasn’t under COVID 19 restrictions, was it not? Not been £1 for a while and at £1.50 pp it’s an absolute bargain. John provides a unique service that many really appreciate, so thanks John. :thumb:

In my view Mark I think the reduction and restrictions placed on Airshows have played a part in the growth of the public at certain bases, particular last summer when Airshows nearly all but bit the dust. The success of the 48th FW public affairs office (the marketing department) has also probably contributed to awareness via their excellent social media output. The three special F15’s certainly captured the D Day spirit much better than the aircraft of the modern RAF did.
On restrictions I’d want to see the Forest Heath/Mid Suffolk Council minutes or planning notices that record the decisions for the area in question.

Why don't they just charge for the use of the spotters car park and use the funds raised to extend it?

And who is going to monitor it?

I don't think it can be extended as it has the SSSI, base and road as its boundaries.

Maybe there is an alternative location for a larger one?

Ahhh, what about upwards? A 10 floor multi-story carpark on that spot would be fantastic - imagine the views! I can't see any problems with that plan whatsoever, non at all.... :P

I stand more chance of winning Euromillions than a new viewing area being built at any base; I don't even buy a ticket

The viewing area carpark and surrounding area were heaving after midday but mostly family groups with footballs and picnics from what I could see and only one of two people with binoculars but no more than that. I popped in on the way down to Mildenhall to see if the burger bar was there - it wasn't ( never is on a Friday).

Lakenheath has become understandably quite an attraction for day trippers.
