Previous Model Comp Builds - Gallery

No photos as yet these will follow once I get my 24 - 105 lens back tomorrow!

However the build at the moment stands as follows:

1). Wings Constructed. Slats and Airbrakes constructed and dry fitted.
2). GAU-8A Canon constructed and sprayed Alclad Aluminium and Steel. I have not gone too overboard on this and am in two minds whether to install it as you cannon see it.
3). Engines constructed, Sprayed in Alclad (dark and light Aluminium) and installed in the engine bays
4). Weapons sprayed; I am going for this proposed load out..... 2No. GBU 10 Paveway II, 4 No. GBU-20 Cluster bombs (2 on each wing on a hard point each), 2No. Maverick missiles; 1 on each wing. This will make it look a bit more busier but not over killing it. There will also be the jamming pod and sidewinder missiles as well.
5). Weapons hard points, painted, weathered and ready to be installed.
6). Undercarriage, painted, weathered and ready to be installed.

Once I have the Airies cockpit delivered I can work on getting the airframe together.

Ok, here we go!

Some shots of the sprues, slightly dissambled at the time as I'd eagerly pulled all the large parts off the trees:



Lovely new decal sheet, although I'm still not decided which airframe to go with. Leaning towards Dead Reckoning at the moment, but open to suggestion!

Now, the fun stuff! Assembling those lovely Eduard Burner cans
You start off with a sheet like this:



Then cut some parts of, and start bending them to get:



Once these are assembled, it looks like this:



And then some more bits for the actuator rods (which is as far as I've got at the moment). it's going to be interesting getting a good paint type to make these look burnt metallic. At the moment, I'm tempted to leave them as they are. Not sure though.



Then starting work on the cockpit:

And throughout, I'm using the age old "it looks much better in real life" - which the cockpit certainly does, as the photos are about 400% of the size of the actual item.


Next update as an when, should be the main gear bay, more weathering on the front bay, and ejection seat assembly and photo etch.

Those photos don't look too bad mate. All looks really good. Liking the aircraft coursework on the desk aswell

Ben that looks top notch so far dude! With regards to painting the Burner cans could you not try some drt brushing with Bronze/black just to add to them? They look the real deal! I love the choice of A/c as well!

Re Burner cans,

Have you tried Alclad? Failing that I know Tamiya on my Strike Ealge suggested mixing clear orange with metallic grey (XF-56??) which works really well.
The insides I thnk should be White with a touch of buff if they are anything like the eagle burner cans.

Set them off with a nice wash (Mig wash is excellent) and they'll look the mutts nuts..

Looking good so far Ben, those burner cans must have been fun

Managed to blag myself one of these at Telford last year for a mere £25, bit of a bargain realy (before you say it, yes I know it's 1/48 :oops:) Was toying with the idea of using the PE cans, but would rather go for the incredibly hard to find Cutting Edge cans instead- the kits exhuasts are so bad they really need replacing. Had heard that since the kit is back in production, new aftermarket engines and possibly bomb bays were on the way, but nothing seems to have materialised Will sit tight though, really want to give my one the beans. Also got that TwoBobs sheet which is ace, it's a shame I have to choose only one of those nose-arts

There was a set on ebay last week Seamus not sure if it is still around, I to am on the lookout for Cutting edge stuff. I'm amazed that nobody else has picked up where they left off as there is a lot of demand for there stuff on the web.

Anyway back to the topic, that Bone is looking good I look forward to seeing more updates!

Cheers guys,

I just bought a 32nd one of these off Ebay the other day!

Forgot to mention that the weapons rails have been washed in MIG wash - truely awesome (but expensive) stuff! The engines will also be hidden as they will be sealed up. I just thought I'd do a proper job and get them painted correctly!

It was and as a Man utd fan I thought the game was awful! They just didnt show up, but credit to West Ham they played really well!

Needless to say I didnt do any building last night but will get some done once i have finished work today. I kinda have enjoyed working from home these last few days!
