Aeroflot B777 now 2 hours out from Heathrow.Surely now it should be denied access to UK airspace!
On what grounds should it be denied access to UK airspace ?,
Russian invasion of Ukraine!

It is a civilian aircraft on a scheduled flight and quite probably with Brtish citizens on board returning or retreating to the UK.

All Russian citizens need to feel the impact of sanctions to understand what Putin has done to their country.

Putin is looking back to the Russian revolution and 180000 allied troops fighting for the White Russians, a non-aggression pact with Germany that ended up with Barbarossa and the deaths of millions of Russians and our politics are remembering the Scots Guards wiping the Czar.

And they say the purpose of the study of history is not to repeat the mistakes.

Can somebody help clarify this for me? Ta

As far as I am aware NATO have said they won't get involved in putting boots on the ground if war breaks out between Russia and Ukraine - is that correct? ( I assume ' boots' also includes airforce and navy assets)

My question is then why are NATO assets being deployed to Poland - is it in case conflict ( if it occurs) over flows to NATO countries whose security is guaranteed by NATO membership ? Estonia for example.

Entirely correct slogen51 NATO are just taking measures to make sure that Putin does stop at Ukraine and doesn't continue to BLITZKRIEG the countries that once made up the Eastern Block.

In 2014 Russian irregular forces entered Donetsk & Luhansk. Imagine that was Wales and England. How would the Scottish population react?

Then yesterday. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/2/2 ... -live-news

Today we have comments from the Government.

Into the valley of death rode the 600; the leaders of those soldiers watched from a convenient safe vantage point.
After the show Raglan or one of the other commanders retired to their yacht for supper

Not quite a good example of leadership

It is a confusing situation. Even more so because the price of petrol dropped by 4p/l locally

Propaganda war is ramping up. Ukraine are already claiming they have shot down 5 aircraft and 1 helicopter.
Message from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

According to the United Forces Command, today, February 24, 5 planes and an aggressor helicopter were shot down in the OS area.

The United Forces give a decent section to the Russian Armed Forces. Military units in their positions. The opponent is taking the losses.

Keep calm and believe in Ukrainian defenders.

Together we will win!

Glory to Ukraine!

Don’t think Boris will get his extra arms and equipment to Ukraine now as promised yesterday. Got to feel for the people of Ukraine. So uncalled for. Sad day for the world.

Steve.

I'm sure he knew that would be the case when he made his 'promise'; just another barrage of bluff and bluster.

"Eastern European countries like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania or Poland - once part of Moscow's orbit in Soviet times - are all now Nato members.

They are feeling distinctly nervous that Russian forces might not stop at Ukraine and instead use some pretext to "come to the aid" of the ethnic Russian minorities in the Baltics and invade. "

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60485766
Although a huge proportion of Russias military is deployed around Ukraine so it'd be a stretch for any action further north, at the moment anyway I would think. Putin is a master at brinkmanship, he'll push this hard and fast, try toi keep the West on the back foot, that's why in my view the sanctions applied so far are too weak.
