Bulgaria - Graf Ignatievo request

Post by slogen51 » Sun Sep 25, 2022 2:50 pm

Heading of to Bulgaria for a few days at the end of October care of PW tours!

Thanks.

Has anyone on here visited Graf Ignatievo recently? I understand the airworthy Mig-29 have relocated to Plovdiv due to runway maintenance at Graf but are the stored Mig-21 still there/visible from outside at Graf Ignatievo?

Cheers
Mike

I've not been since pre-Covid but as far as I know, there is not much visible from 'outside'. There are some nice MiG-21s preserved in towns/villages around the area, a particularly nice one is at the aero club, just south of Graf (an afternoon shot). There are also L29, Su-22 and other MiG models preserved around Plovdiv area.

Paul

I've not been to Graf Ignatievo.

However, I've been to the very good aviation museum at Plovdiv-Krumovo, which is next to the shared civilian / military airfield at Plovdiv. It has a large selection of former Soviet and more recent Bulgarian military aircraft. Even a very rare Arado Ar-196. If you need to implement a Plan B then go to this facility - unless you've been of course.

For reference check out my Flickr Albums list 'Bulgaria' - link below - for some of what can be seen at the outdoor museum.

Happy travelling!

If you PM or email me with your approx. route, I will give you locations for some of the w&r (and a note of their condition).

I was enquiring about the Fishbed situation at Graf as we haven't been there before

Thanks anyway

If you're talking about the dozens of Mig-21's that used to be stored in the revetments and dispersals at Graf, then most of them were moved to Cheshnegirovo and scrapped there at least 10 years ago. And when we tried back then, we were unable to find anywhere to see into the revetments.

We do have dome piccies of the scrapping area at Cheshnegirovo before we were thrown out though

Visited Graf Ignatievo in 2019 during the airshow. Only 3 Mig-21’s were visible that day, in pristine condition. But they were put in the big hangars at the end of the day. So from outside, unfortunately not much chance to see them. No stored Migs were seen outside.
They have quite some aircraft preserved, but again, not much to see from outside.
