Brazil 1-0 Switzerland

Brazil beat a hardworking Swiss team to be only the second team after France through to the last 16?

Love the way casemiro calculated the deflection off the Swiss defenders arse to score the winner - great skills

Big Ron against Uruguay next - match 32 according to the BBC so halfway through

Just found out Brazil are the only team since 1966 to have not faced a shot on target in their 1st 2 games of a world cup.

Was a lovely strike by Casemiro.

Ecuador 1-2 Senegal

Two goals in 2 minutes puts Senegal back in front in a make or break match for Senegal

Senegal win and go through to the knockout stage and will probably face England next

Iran v USA for me this evening. Looks to be quite a tasty game and a lot riding on the result.

PS: I think Vuvuzela's have made a comeback!

It's hard on Wales but they are qualifying for major tournaments now

USA are through

I wanted Iran to win for the way they played the game

England against Senegal in the last 16

USA face Netherlands

( How do Dutch people refer to their own country - I understand they don't say Holland?)

Great to see Ian Rush on the BBC panel. What a lovely man and was once a prolific striker for the Merseyside team in red.

A Dutch pal used to get annoyed with anyone who called his country 'Holland', and pointed out that there is no such country, just the provinces of North Holland and South Holland (I think there are about 10 provinces in all) which are part of what Kloggies refer to as 'Nederland'.

I've never used that term in front of Joop - he'd just go off on (another) one!

England are a faster, more inventive team without Kane. Keep him on the bench until the penalty shoot outs come along.
Henderson is a far better captain; well organised, motivational and constantly driving the team on.

It will be interesting if the players dial down the histrionics, arguments and swearing for the all female refereeing team.

Agreed there, though he did get a great assist for the second one.

Some debates about whether Foden dived for that free-kick but what a goal it was! Let's see how we perform against Senegal, they will not be easy.

Also, we played so much better pressing the opponents last night. These players all play for the Top 6 PL teams, in which most of them press, so it makes sense to do the same and not sit off like we did against the US.
