Reds Winter Training 2022-24

Dear Mods. Would it be tidier to run a sticky which would run a chronological set of info over the winter?

Just a thought ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿš— ๐ŸŽ

Synchro were up today for 1 sortie, Reds 6 and 4, then Enid were up shortly after, Reds 1/3/5.

No clues as to next years plans for them with the Syncro numbers- would expect this years Red 7 to return, but not in Syncro, and then 2 and 3 to be newbies, giving a full 9 again?

This is my thoughts - let's see what the following months bring, but at least training has started.

Red 1 - same
Red 2 - new
Red 3 - new
Red 4 - this years Red 2 or 7
Red 5 - same
Red 6 - same
Red 7 - this years Red 4, last years Red 6
Red 8 - this years Red 2 or 7
Red 9 - this years Red 3

As already said Enid were 1/3/5 - photos show three jets in a standard Vic three - so 1 of either 3 or 5 are on the opposite side to further confuse matters :Wow:

Enid have been up three times today, 1st sortie looked to be a three ship, they had to do a streamed take off due to ice, unsure on 2nd, but final sortie was a 4 ship.

It appears Red 4 (Bondy) is still flying the Red 4 and Red 7 Positions suggesting it's not going to be a full team again in 23.

Edit - all sorties today we're a 4 ship

Only one session captured. A close scrutiny will reveal patches of light green track. This is were they were either looping or possibly doing a barrel roll.

The Hunter Lee92 had been loitering around Newark waiting for the Reds to finish at which time he joined , did a circle and fly off to Leeming.

Much warmer watching the track rather than driving to Scampton hoping to catch them.

Looks like they will be using the Syerston overhead airspace for training in the new year.

Quite possibly.

Have heard once Scampton airspace is no longer useable, it will be Enid over Waddo, Synchro/Hannah (new name for Gypo - if they have enough pilots!) over Syerston and then when the two need to combine it will be Donna Nook/Syerston

Are we expecting RAFAT to stretch to a possible 7 aircraft for the 2023 season, from their 6-ship for the close of 2022, or might we even see a return to the nine-ship team? genuine question.

Highest number I've heard so far is 7, so in theory there should be at least a 7 ship, how ever Red 4 was working both an Enid and a Syncro slot in the past two weeks, see what happens in the new year. R313 is open on the 4th/6th Jan apparently then back to normal w/c 9th, would expect a week of emergency drills to start off with.

The CAA have granted a temporary Airspace change over RAF Syerston from 9 Jan till 17 April 2023. This will be for the purpose of enabling the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team to practice low-flying training, owing to the closure of their previous operating base at RAF Scampton. The Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) outlines the requirements for this activity.

The purpose of this period is to inform all stakeholders, including the general public, of the CAAโ€™s decision. This also provides an opportunity for feedback from stakeholders which will then be collated and analysed by RAF Waddington then sent on to the CAA to help determine the effects on the local areas.

In accordance with UK regulation any feedback will be undertaken through electronic communication. Details of the airspace change proposal:

Busy day for the Reds.

All doing solo currency trips:

Red 1,3,4,5,6,7,10 and Vulcan 81.

Then Enid (1/3/4/5) have just done a late afternoon practice.

Red 5 Landed at Cranwell after his morning slot and wasnt heard coming back, so presumably he's left a Hawk there for something

Red 3 sounds new, maybe 2 is as well....

See if 8/9 make an appearance in the coming weeks.

Red 8 up in the circuit at this time - looks like game on for a 9 ship.

13.30 - Enid have just returned from their 1st 5 ship sortie.
