Wedding photography - how hard can it be?!!

Post by Dunk » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:19 pm

A couple have successfully sued their wedding photographer, after paying out £1450 for Fresh Images Photography to cover their wedding day.

There are 4 cracking pictures on this Telegraph link

I know a few people who dabble in Wedding photography, and theres a few who frequent these boards - is it really that difficult?!!!!

Good news for the couple. I too would have been gutted if our photos were so bad, I still looked like a bag of spuds dressed up in a suit, Mrs SJNovis looked wonderful.
We did spend some time choosing the right guy though, luckily Mrs SJ used to work for a photographer developing his films, so she has here eye tuned in to spotting not perfectly focused images.

Its is quite apaling that this guy could not frame a stationary horse and cart, there are many memebers here who can frame and focus a tornado at 400+ knots while stood on a windy/wet hill side.

Saw the same news item linked to the sun website. Showed a video which was truly awful. Really shocking stuff!

I've photographed a few weddings over the years and it's not exactly rocket science. It's almost beyond comprehension how that clown managed to make such a mess of that wedding. It's almost like they gave a camera to Bubbles the chimp for the afternoon.

How hard is it?

If you have the right gear, an eye for a picture, bags of confidence, the ability to organise people, the self-discipline to organise your post-production work flow........and Public Liability Insurance then its a good way to earn a bit of extra money. There aren't many professional wedding photographers making a decent living at it though: you need to charge upwards of £2000 per wedding and do one every other week to make a living at it. I've done a few upon recommendation and they've paid for a few hoildays and camera equipment but quite frankly to do it full-time would bore the pants off me.

The best way i found was to let the guests bring cameras...Then after the doo casually ask for copies of the pics they took...our complete day is recorded and it cost nothing

I've done a few for mates as favours and if you treat them seriously, they can be pretty pressured; not something I really enjoy. Herding a room full of people you don't know is a job for the confident! Never had any disasters though.
