Reds to Lossie?

Post by reaper493 » Sun Feb 11, 2024 7:47 pm

Evening all,

Rumours floating around Waddington that the Reds are up to Lossie for two weeks starting 19th February, with practices to be conducted over Tain Range.

Not seen any NOTAMs published for it as of yet, if true!

I believe so. I'd expect Lossie FB page to confirm sooner rather than later

New Notam for Monday, same route but +30 mins later.

As for a route 'John Smith' - whoever he is has posted something in the WAVE group with a rough map, but it's point to point. The last 7 points up there are all at 500ft, the rest 27,000.

How does one find and access this ‘WAVE group’?

Can I assume which maybe a mistake that the Reds are only here from 19/02-22/02 and not 2 weeks ??

How is it that when I try and plot these coordinates I get a location in the middle of the North Sea??

If you are using degrees, minutes and seconds you will need a minus sign for the "Eastings" as it is west - if that makes sense. I've just tied it and it comes up almost at the top of Loch Ness. Converts to 57.40528 -4.33444 decimal value.

Hope that helps.

Original rumour suggested two weeks, Notam confirms it's only 4 days.

Potentially only a handful of jets rather than the full compliment.

Red Arrows on start at Waddington - just the five aircraft going.

All are duel except Red 3.

I’ve seen mention on other sites that it was two formations that headed North today? I saw the formation of 5 a/c that went past Inverness at 1029 as per the 2nd NOTAM, was there another formation before that?

Only 5 jets left Waddo, so unless they did a circuit somewhere?

Thanks for clarifying. I think the other websites seen the two NOTAMs and put two and two together and got ten👍🏻
