I was a brat on Akrotiri back in the 70's so the background noise of Phantoms and Vulcans and surprisingly noisy weather balloons is part of my childhood - I've made many visits to the island since and whilst viewing opps at Akt are somewhat limited (from outside the wire, at least) I have been lucky to see quite a lot of movements in the last 2-3 years. Clearly the base is being used for missions currently so I won't go into too much detail but if you happen to be on Lady's Mile beach at any point then keep an eye over your shoulder in case something should lift out and slide in! In the high summer nothing really happens in the middle of the day but mornings and late afternoons can be busy - everything in the RAF inventory has been there but regular visitors from foreign nations can be seen at Akt.
Clearly it's a sensitive area and whilst photography isn't banned per se, if you do go then probably wise to be mindful of current global issues.

Re: Busy at Akt
You'll be in good company with those on, half the population of the island seems to be Russian.
I had a message from a fella on Facebook telling me to be observant of "opsec"... of course he's right but ANYONE could sit where I did and observe the same movements, it's hard to hide a brace of Typhoons departing.
Re: Busy at Akt
Does anyone know what the serials of the 2 x U2-S and C-27 currently operating out of Aki are please?
