Palmdale Request - 4/9/2024

Post by slogen51 » Fri Sep 27, 2024 6:55 pm

4/09/2024 : Noted a B-1B at Palmdale nose on to the museum - it looked tied to the ground

Not sure if it is WFU but any help with the serial would be appreciated

Thanks in anticipation

As already mentioned, 86-0126/DY would be a good candidate as this has been wfu at Palmdale in 2024. It might have joined the museum.

86-0115 was resurrected out of AMARG to replace it after it was deemed to costly to repair while at Palmdale.

Another Palmdale query

In the museum is a F-16C in aggressor colours marked as "84-1228" which turns out to be a composite of 78-0105 rear and 84-1228 front portion - looking at pictures the original 84-1228 was basically turned in to a burnt out hulk without a tail while 78-0105 looks recognizable as a F-16 without the front cockpit - my question is which frame to have or can you claim two for the price of one!

I am leaning towards claiming it as 78-0105 which was a F-16B

Hi Slogen51,

I agree with your assessment that the F-16 at Palmdale is largely 78-0105, with only the nose being from 84-1228. I have therefore logged it as F-16B 78-0105. I know that Nighthawk237 is also of the same opinion and has done the same.

Kind regards,
LH01

Looks to have been cobbled together as an F-16A, so 84-1228 (if anything) for me.

If you look at the following photograph of 84-1228 on F.16 Net, I think this confirms that that major part of the aircraft is still the original F-16A.

I think you should also look at:

https://www.f-16.net/g3/f-16-photos/album30/aib

It is acknowledged that the front part comes from the other F-16, and I think it is fairly obvious where the join line is. At the end of the day it comes down to what one wishes to claim but for me the majority of the airframe is from the FY78 jet.

For what it's worth.

P.

Thanks 👍

Think I will have it as 78-0105 as for me it is tail spotting!
