Luftwaffe Airbus A350s - Cologne-Bonn

Post by david14 » Fri Jun 13, 2025 8:29 pm

Towards the end of April I had a few days spare, thought I would go to Germany, wanted to spend a bit of time at Ramstein and see Luftwaffe A350s at Cologne-Bonn.

When I arrived at C-B on the Sunday morning, none of them were on the ground, but In the space of about 30 hours I photographed all 3. ADS-B showed one arriving a couple of hours later, the second landed Monday lunchtime and the third that evening.

The airport terrace is excellent when they are landing from the north, but photography is is a lot more challenging when they are landing from the south (which the other two did) - you can't get very close in a car and there are a lot of trees! And as it was unseasonably warm then there was a lot of heat haze.

Thanks for sharing these with us, I've been to C-B a few times and seen a variety of types over the years. Back in 1991, I visited one day and it must have been a unit commanders meeting. It was certainly different to see lots of Tornado, Phantom and Alpha Jet movements, together with some choppers. I wonder if this still happens? Nice to see the A350s though.

Thanks Mustang, that would have been nice to see - especially if they were using the "correct" runway
