What i meant was the Typhoons primary mission at the moment is air to air, still doing trials on air to ground weapons arent they? only a handful are cleared for the swing role arent they?, hope the Canopeners see some action!!

USS Kearsage has Seahawks on board, the Canadian frigate has a Sea King, and I'm sure that the other USN Ships have a few helicopters to add.leuchars phanthom wrote:What's the CSAR capability in theatre ..anyone know?
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
A post on Reachhunters says their are 2 Lakenheath HH-60's operating off the USS Ponceleuchars phanthom wrote:What's the CSAR capability in theatre ..anyone know?

I dare say the Kearsage has CH53's and/or MV22's onboard along with a Marine Recon det. The Italians have a CSAR capability as wellrmt_1982 wrote:USS Kearsage has Seahawks on board, the Canadian frigate has a Sea King, and I'm sure that the other USN Ships have a few helicopters to add.leuchars phanthom wrote:What's the CSAR capability in theatre ..anyone know?

I'd guess so, I was only going off what I could remember seeing in a couple of books at work the other night.Thunder wrote:I dare say the Kearsage has CH53's and/or MV22's onboard along with a Marine Recon det. Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Sky news just said it crashed due to engine failure, not sure if that is just speculation tho, they showed a Lakenheath F15E taking off but not sure if that was old footage, are Lakeneath Eagles at Gioa or are they US based Eagles on deployment there?
Cheers, glad both are safe

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
If they were referring to two squadrons it should be 3 and 11 Squadrons, no comma, but they clearly put 311 Squadron. I agree it's probably a typo but given that many journos can't tell a pitot tube from a tailplane, I doubt they'd realise that they'd made a mistake in the first place.Thunder wrote:T_J wrote:I'm sure someone in the know will clarify, but I believe it is known as Last Chance, Arm/De Arm, EOR (end of the runway)? Not the normal way the RAF do it, but since they're operating from an Italian air base I would imagine they will have to follow local procedures/regulations.
In all fairness regards the 311 Sqn remark, it looks like a simple comma has been missed and should be "3, 11 Sqns"

Lakenheath Eagles are at Sigonella I believe, no State side units have been deployed.
Edit: Aviano then. Is that were the Danish are as well, as I've seen a picture of the Danes and the F-15E's together on the same airfield but I thought the Danes went to Sig??

You know, you'd probably get more people going straight to this thread rather than creating their own if it had a more meaningful title...
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Agreed, I'll change it now.
Re: Libya Update Thread - 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
I think Ben was creating a sub-forum as well.

Lol thanks but your stella pic is over lapping the first number, I can't see what it says
I think this lybian thing needs its own section with different threads about different missions, its gonna be hard to keep up with one continuous thread :/
No worries I'll catch up when I get home later

I guess the 56th RQS are earning their keep.
Two went south last week (one having an emergency and landing at a french airfield enroute) but assume they were to Italy along with MC130Ps.
