Halloween - do you answer your door?

We love it around here, lots of polite kids, genuinely appreciative of the whole evening. :thumb:

What's it like round your way, brilliant or Beirut?

Must admit, it's pretty good where I am.
No bad lads, and the little cherubs are always accompanied by parents.
A 'thank you' is very common (especially for the Cadbury goodies).
I do pop the face mask on when answering the door though in the dark, then let out a loud scream, just in time to set my flash off 'on strobe' - their faces are a peach :D
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D

When I lived in a town a few years back, we gave up answering the door. It was mostly surly and abusive youths rather than little kids, and could be very intimidating - and I lived in one of the 'good' areas too. Decided to move after the local yobs rampaged up the street smashing windows and vandalising cars on Halloween 2005. Seemed a little beyond a trick and it was not a treat for anyone.

This 'festival' hardly got a mention when I was a kid (Guy Fawkes night was a much bigger thing then) but it seems to have taken a firm hold now. Given my experiences, I am not a fan. I now live in the sticks where we are out of the way, and don't get bothered any more - I am very pleased about that too.

living in Midenhall , and having the odd American living near bye, its allways an enjoyable night
they make such an effort with thier costumes you have to give them a well earned treat
unfortunatly the natives just turn up and knock on the door with no effort to dressing up so they get
the rubbish treats

As we do the front of the house up with all that tacky stuff,
we seem to get plenty of nice kids and parents around for trick or treats etc.

I like carving out pumpkins.

Rather like Beirut here, just with more knives and chavs. Answering the door is met by 15+ year olds, in tracksuits, saying "sweets!" and very little else. Failure to provide said sweets results in other chavs throwing eggs at the house.

Needless to say it's black-out curtains up, lights off and TV quiet and ignore the little scroats.

Would anyone like to swap...?

Not so bad if it was just on Halloween night, but we had little kids come around on Thursday 27th October with no masks or costumes on saying "trick or treat" the cheek of the little beggars! lol, luckily most of the kids are polite, i sometimes put a mask on and turn the lights out and do my best to scare the "cr**" out of the little beggars! but nothing seems to scare them anymore :O

Happy Halloween folks

Where I used to live always used to answer the door, good thing I had a little camera installed for when I had a little bike, could see who it was etc, Although there was never any trouble at all, you did get the teenagers who just want to cause trouble...

After Last night I know for a fact no one is opening the main door in the block of flats tonight, due to a gang of kids setting a banger off against the main lock and the main window trying to gain access which they never managed after the look didn't budge a single bit!

Thats kind of what goes on around the area that I'm now living in though, I'm sure its different in other places but nope, not answering the door at all
