Dragon 51/52 Night Shots @ Fairford

Post by dinger » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:37 pm

After driving down to Fairford in the hope of getting Fridays two arrivals departing for sunnier climbs, I was delighted to see both of the U-2's parked outside with one well under preparation for departure. It was -4 degrees during my time there with a clear sky and full moon. Due to the distance and my limited night shooting experiance, they are not as sharp as I would like, however, it was worth the long drive to bag them.

Nice shots! Good to see the U-2 movements are sponsored by Audi!

Cracking stuff Dinger, the shots of 331 holding before departure are ace. Gutted I didn't make it in time for her!

I must have been stood right next to you without realising it, it was certainly a cold one this morning!

Many thanks for the replies.

Goose - It was a last minute dot com decision to risk the drive down for them

Sam - I departed around 0300 just as 087 was being crewed in.

Ah, I did see you then! I was the teenager in the hooded jacket just to the left of you :)

Glad you made the trip down!

My thanks to all for posting their photos of the recent U-2 activities, especially the night shots. You must have been freezing down there, I take my hat off to you all for your dedication.

I've been following U-2s operations in the UK for more than 25 years now, unfortunately I've not been in a position to visit Fairford for a few years now so the information and photographs on here have been invaluable to me.

A HUGE thanks to everyone for the information and photos. It's REALLY appreciated.
