They used to plan it a year in advance so I doubt we will see an Air Fete 2010. As far as I know there are no plans to re-instate the Air Fete due to security issues & operational commitments.

They seem to have now focused their annual public appearances on the American Air Day at Duxford, so I guess this is sort of replacing the Air Fetes.

No airshow this year.

But... there is an airshow team in place looking to stage a 'significant' event in 2011. The base do want Air Fete to return, but the security issues haven't been resolved as far as the Pentagon is concerned. I have been told that the event, if it happens, would be "bigger than the 75th anniversary celebrations but not quite on the scale of the old Air Fetes".

As much as I really enjoyed my trips down from Scotland to Mildenhall Air Fete's (I'm a Vet of '94, '97, '98 and 2000) I really couldn't see how after 9 Years they could possibly bring it back with the same sort of atmosphere as before as has been said before you have to take in consideration the Security issues post 9/11 and with what's going on overseas at present. Would love to see it return but unfortunately I can't see it.

If only the organisers at Fairford could get the Yanks to do the catering Mildenhall style. That would be a big step towards the good old days and should inject a huge amount of atmosphere into the event. Think I'll suggest it although I'm sure others already have.

Here here Drumsey

Would be worth it just to see the sick faces on the guys charging 4 quid for a fried egg and watered down coffee, when everyone was stood trying to get a wet burger and a bud. Those were certainly the days!

My thoughts exactly.....how hard could it be?!?!!?

My brother was at a kids party last week and there were some of the USAF Mildenhall committee members there...they confirmed that there will be an event next year but not quite the size of the historical air fetes of old.....lets just keep the enthusiasm and desire for the event to return and I'm sure it will happen as for me personally, it was always the best event of the year, by far!

I'd be over the moon if it returns. I suppose the security issues in question are the same as the ones they recently relaxed (due to concerns about weather and on/off base parking) at Fairford?

The Mildenhall Air Fete was my favourite show each year. The on-site catering was excellent, no thin cardboard burgers there.

Even the soft drinks were ice cold, I remember the various stalls (each operated by a different trade or wing) trying to out shout each other to get the customers.

Those were the days indeed, driving onto the airfield and being stuck in a huge queue didnt matter, as beers and burgers were forced through your windows at 0700, sometimes had 2 visits from the BBQ people by the time we parked up!

Lee, most people would stay or camp in the local area, then walk into the show. Therefore no problemo. :)

The last time I can remember doing something like that I was at Finningley 1989, with my Brother and co. By the time we got back home that evening I had a hangover and as I recall spent most of the, unusually for me, chatting to other people in an increasingly drunken torpor.
