Curiously, this aircraft also appears to have changed its Mode S hex whilst on the ground at EGOS on 8 Mar 10. It arrived at about 1342 as 43C129 and departed at 1428 as 43C179!
Must be something in the AVTUR...

RAF Shawbury moves March 2010
Re: RAF Shawbury moves March 2010
A Merlin HC3 landed in our field at about 1600 this afternoon. I couldn't quite get there in time to see the serial clearly but think it might have been ZJ131. If so, the hex should have been 43C226 but neither this nor any other Merlin showed on my SBS-1 today. Anyone have more information?

Many thanks -- maybe that was the one. Wonder why it didn't show on the box?
Awesome sight and sound, much quieter than a Griffin despite its size. Downwash nearly blew me over as it took off!

Listening to Shawbury low level on 376.675, it was inbound to 'Pigeon wood' field landing site.It did some holds on the SWB VOR and then flew westbound to the field landing site at around 15.30. The callsign was actually 'VORTEX318'.SCARECROW wrote:There was one due on a PD at Shaw this afternoon about 1520, SHF 320 I think.
