Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Cracking additions, well done to Yeovilton on some fantastic aircraft for the flying display.
Just need the weather to play ball for once, could be an epic show, still a while to go yet too!

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Yes some great additions......
While talking to Cdr Air at the media launch he did say that also still to confirm, but are 90%, are; French role demo (Super E + Rafale), Antanov an-124, Red Star Rebels and they are in talks with the Classic Air Force for the Meteor, Vampire and Venom. From a diferent source, they are in talks with the Sweedish for the Draken and Viggen...............So could be a truly brilliant show. Also the Dutch AF will send a Pc7 for static display
On a different note. After the media launch I poped to Pyle Lane to catch up with some fellow 'Spotters'.......
Late on a local Police man turned up and was checking the area for the upcoming airshow. Whilst talking he said that the normal areas would be closed off, I asked about the field at 27 and the Policeman said that this year the field will be closed off to everyone for arrivals and air day! I said that they can't do that as it is a public right of way and he said they could as the farmer, police and Yeovilton are all in agreement....So it looks like the field be a no-go area for both days............

Sounds Good About the French Navy, Hopefully The The French Navy Will Send the NH90 to make its Debut, Would be Nice for a Few more Static Fast Jets. While talking to Cdr Air at the media launch he did say that also still to confirm, but are 90%, are; French role demo (Super E + Rafale), Antanov an-124, Red Star Rebels and they are in talks with the Classic Air Force for the Meteor, Vampire and Venom. Absolutely fantastic news, will be booking my tickets hopefully by the end of the week!

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Rather concerning if it turns out to be true. Is that going to include the 09 end? I fail to see how they can prevent people from standing on a roadside...lmgaylard wrote:On a different note. After the media launch I poped to Pyle Lane to catch up with some fellow 'Spotters'.......![]()

Why does this seemingly become more of an issue year on year?

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
I remember the farmer who owned the field off pyle lane used to charge for entrance into his field,, didn't he.. Loads of people used to use it

I did not ask about 09 end, did'nt think of it.
The Policeman did say that they would be stopping all cars entering the Village, I guess they mean the same as normal as they can't stop the villagers and their guests, provided they have a permit.
Tony Weatherall used to own the field next to pyle lane and if I remember correct, he charged £1 per person.....
When I was talking to the Policeman he did say that ''last years air show was nearly stopped because of the people in the filed''! I was not aware of any ''Bad'' incident last year so said I think that's wrong, do you mean 2009? He did'nt answer.
When I said are you sure it's not more to do with the organisers wanting more people to pay to come into the 'Show' instead of the field he just smiled......
He did say ''perhaps you should pay to go inside instead''......cheeky
I did reply something alomg the lines of; I have paid for 30 years thanks.....
Seven was sat next to me on the grass during this chat, perhaps he can remember other things that was said....

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Sounds to me like 09 will be business as usual then. That's something I suppose...
I spent most of last year at the 27 end and saw nothing that could have upset the farmer, Yeovilton or the police, largely as there was barely anyone there! We have heard these sorts of threats before (2011 I believe) but they came to nothing, hopefully that'll be true of this year. I can't see how cordoning off the field adjacent to the perimeter fence and keeping people on the bridleway causes any problems in the slightest.
A case of wait and see I feel...

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
I would just pitch up and see what happens, this conversation happens every year before the show and we have always had some sort of access.
One thing Yeovilton really need to look at is to open the viewing enclosure for the whole day, why would you pay to only be able to view some of the arrivals!

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
There's never ever been any trouble during the arrivals in the 27 field in an enthusiast point of view. As Jon said, the photocall opens up half way through the day, missing one rehearsal and missing half of the arrivals.
As of 2011, half the field is closed anyway, with people only allowed up to the stream of which alongside it is the public right of way. They are not allowed to restrict this PRoW as there are no safety concerns from this far away from the runway. I can see their point right up at the fence and inbetween the lights, where the Police Officer who moved everyone on parked his 4x4 and took photos of planes coming over his head, but why interrupt people enjoying themselves and viewing from a place where, from Monday to Thursday, it is fine except on the friday, a few more aircraft arrive.
It is pure nonsense. We talked with the police in 2011 who moved everyone on... they said clearly it was the new farmer not wanting anyone there. We spoke to the farmer 2hrs later and he said he told them nothing of the sort and it was Yeovilton which kicked up.
The best thing the farmer could do is to open up and have people pay a few quid and to open up the carpark for all to use. You'll find most, if not all would be willing to pay for the car parking or field access rather than go into the Photocall, looking into the sun/light all afternoon and miss everything in the morning.
The car park would stop ALL lane/road access issues from happening, wouldn't need to cone everything off, would keep the cost of policing down (wouldn't need police everywhere), would create a safer place to be, car wise than on the side of a lane) and pretty much stop every hassle they think they are getting. It's common sense.

Which farm owns the land? Do you know the farmers name?RichC wrote:There's never ever been any trouble during the arrivals in the 27 field in an enthusiast point of view. As Jon said, the photocall opens up half way through the day, missing one rehearsal and missing half of the arrivals.

I agree totally with what you have said mate. Its a nuts situation. I can understand them not wanting people under the lights by the fence as there have been 1 or 2 very low arrivals over the years, but that is easily taped off.

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
I don't know who owns the farm mate. I'm sure someone on here knows. But all they need to do if worried over safety is:-
1. Put tape around the lights, with a 100m exclusion, 50m either side of the lights. That sorts out anything coming in low including large aircraft.
2. Open up the carpark to everyone, charge £5 per car and half go to the farmer and half go to VLAD. They'd probably make 300-400 quid each.
1. This will get rid of any safety implications regarding the under-run and threshold
2. This will stop people parking all around the lanes/roads. Limit the Police presence (costs money), and create money for both parties involved. Not only would VLAD get money from the photo-call but they would get half from the 27 field. It's money made for them and all the safety fears diminished. And it's money made for the farmer for his kind let over the field to be used.

Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Some other airshows have the locals cash in with opening their fields up for a fee. Take Fairford, the local farmers provide Park and View for a fee.
Re: RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2013
Sorry if this has already been asked in this thread but is there an official pay and view area on base for the Friday?, Thanks.
