Press Release - Tickets all sold for Waddington?

Post by Rich H » Thu Jul 04, 2013 9:48 pm

A 'Media Release' has been received from the RAF Waddington Air Show Office regarding the sale of tickets 'on the gate' this Saturday and Sunday which I have copied in full below. It appears highly likely that tickets will not be available on the day. I have highlighted two sentences in bold - If you haven't got a ticket please read the last sentence of this release.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: RAF WADDINGTON AIRSHOW TICKETS

Date: 4 JUL 2013

From: Air Show Office

Distribution: All Media

MEDIA RELEASE BELOW

Title: Advance Ticket Sales Rocketing Sky High

With the RAF Waddington International Airshow only days away, the organising team are delighted to report that advance ticket sales are so high that there is a strong possibility that all available tickets will have been purchased prior to the event and that there may not be any tickets on sale on the day.

On-line ticket sales have now closed but advance tickets are still available until Friday 5 Jul 2013, from local branches of HSBC and Morrisons Supermarkets (Please check the airshow website for local participating branches)

To re-iterate, visitors are advised to buy their airshow tickets in advance from participating outlets as there is no guarantee that tickets will be available on Saturday 6th July and Sunday 7th July.

The Organisers are keen to stress that unless visitors are in possession of an Advanced-purchase ticket prior to travel that they are unlikely to be able to gain entrance to the Airshow. END

I think they need to shout much louder about that. The home page banner just says "Advanced Ticket Sales Rocketing Sky High" which doesn't quite tell the whole story.

Was going to go on Sunday but as I'm not local, don't have a chance of picking up a ticket. Not going to risk going with "unlikely to be able to gain entrance to the Airshow".

Well, that's one in the eye for all the negative types who couldn't be bothered to go

Me and SWMBO will be there both days as always, whatever the weather, if only to support the RAFBF ;)

Cheers

A very happy Paddyboy

I'm just waiting for the stories about huge traffic jams that'll appear on the forum tomorrow due to loads of non-ticket bearing people having to turn around and go home - sounds like the huge Cosford cock-up all over again.

Sounds like its gonna be a mash up on the roads, high temperatures fuelling bad tempers me thinks!

It's a bit late in the day to tell people not to turn up, as we all know many people without tickets will still go on the day & expect to get in.
A sell out crowd is a good thing for the show orgainisers, but I think they will get a bit of flack if they turn people away. I know they have to limit how many vehicles & people go onto the base, but surely it would have made sense to keep a few tickets available for sale on the day.

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Have to agree 'tankbuster' the average joe public with wife and a couple of kids will get within a few miles or at the gate after a long journey with lots of traffic and be told that all tickets were sold in advance so please turn around and go and enjoy your day somewhere else !!
I did not see it advertised that if all advanced tickets have been sold then no admission on the day.
Pleased that I have mine for Sunday but sad that mr & mrs joe public may not wish to attend next year :(
To all fellow FC members have a great Saturday and or Sunday

If anyone from the Hull area is concerned about not getting in without a ticket, Morrisons Holderness Rd has a wad of tickets on sale still.

The latest from the Waddington website:

The RAF Waddington International Air Show is underway and the organising team are reporting that advance ticket sales have reached such a level that there will be no further tickets available to buy on the gate today (Saturday 6 July). The Organisers are keen to stress that onbly those visitors in possession of an advanced-purchase ticket will gain entrance to the Air Show. Tickets will be available at the gate on Sunday 7 July.

A 'knock-on' effect has already been noted here viewtopic.php?f=130&p=515002#p515002 - plus one hour delays around the A1/A46/A17 junction near Newark (approx. 15 miles away) are still being reported on local radio!

Plus online traffic to the museum website, started to go crazy at around 10.30am!
