Luftwaffe F-4F's on the deck

Post by Thunder » Tue Jun 01, 2010 2:59 pm

Currently at Kinloss are the following

Luftwaffe F-4F's

37+85 Retro 8?
38+26 Retro 8?
38+00 Retro 84
38+73 Retro 87

Diverted in due to problems with one of their Tanker support a/c(stuck boom)

all 4 are parked up within the Northern dispersal area and believe to be night stopping(maybe not as a Transall turned up later on)

As far as I know and can piece together they are heading to Iceland to carry out Icelandic Air Policing duties.

C-160D 50+45 landed after you left and another landed at Lossiemouth a few minutes before.
Nice to meet you today :thumb:

Weird, did they fly across as separate flights or together?

Given the large number of people hanging over the west fence at the time, they were obviously well known about... I think my eyes must need testing, as I missed the posting telling us they were due in (can't find a smilie for sarcasm)... luckily saw the dots and smoke on the way in.

Thanx HB, eye test duly arranged. Just one more board to have to keep an eye on! Now I'm puzzled as I heard some talk of "German Phantoms in June" some weeks ago, though it appears these just diverted in. Perhaps they'll be back next week, although Kinloss may be shut for a while ??

It was known for a couple of weeks that 6x F-4F Phantoms were heading to Iceland and Kinloss was mentioned as a fuel stop if the F-4's couldn't get Tanker support. At 0900 hrs yesterday morning it became clear that Tanker support was duly provided by 2 x KC135's out of Mildenhall and therefore only the air spare was expected once the rest of the flight got topped up with fuel. As it happened one of the Tankers went tech(boom stuck up) so the second flight of 3 had to divert to Kinloss for fuel along with the Air spare. The first anyone knew for sure that 4 Phantoms were heading in was about 15mins before they appeared.

I personally have stopped putting up advance info, as in the past I have been flamed and criticised by others for "speculating/encouraging others to travel for what might not be", and I know I'm not alone on this. Unfortunately because of a few dozen people rubbishing "tip offs"(not all on this forum I must say) people are going to suffer.

For the record and for what it's worth, I have also heard about the 8th and 10th of June but at Lossiemouth, but if it doesn't happen then don't come running.

Hopefully that clears thing up a bit.

Scott
