Re: Coningsby Night flying week commencing 29th June 2015
Looking at the weather next week I can't see the back up days being needed.
Going to be roasting.
Could be some nice evening photo chances without that horrible heat haze.

Changed plans for a visit a few weeks ago to go next week and so Night Flying happens again.
I will visit the BBMF museum - will the airfield be closed all day?
What can be a good time in the afternoon/evening to see departures and arrivals?
Thanks
Ian

Guess it depends what sqns are on nights, I would guess whoever is on nights would only manage one sortie in the dark so you should get a nice evening first sortie?MrB0903 wrote:Changed plans for a visit a few weeks ago to go next week and so Night Flying happens again.

I'm sure the regulars to cby can best inform you though, i,m guessing

That said from a photography point of view I would much Rather go if they are flying late as the sun is so harsh in the daytime this kind of year and the forecast is for 30Degs so the heat haze would be shocking.
To top it off the moon will be up around 7pm also.

Only Typhoons that have shown today from Coningsby have been "Zenith 11/12" flight. So looks like 29 will be night flying so far but still too early to say for sure yet.

Still no flights showing as having departed Coningsby from anyone other than 3(F) Sqn who have put up a few. Nothing from 29 Sqn or 41 Sqn so far today - not sure if XI Sqn are all back yet.
Looks like a quiet day folks.

Thanks Steven.
I feel I may look for a log tomorrow night before making a decision on if to stick with my intended trip on Wednesday. Do you happen to know if the Awacs have been up today at all?

29 Sqn are kicking out now with "Triplex 11" Flight and "Gunfighter 31" flight now showing so definitely 29 on nights.

Might have a trip up either tomorow or wed evening if it's busy.
Re: Coningsby Night flying week commencing 29th June 2015
Looking at visiting Coningsby for the first time on the 16th July so the whole night flying thing is a bonus for me
Couple of Q's
What time typically do they start flying in the day if they are on night flying also ? I know it's not an exact science but I'll be coming down from Newcastle upon Tyne & wondering if staying over in a hotel the night before is a better bet. I'm then looking to visit Lakenheath on the Friday to catch some Eagle action (unless it's a US holiday) so looking to tie up all the logistics.
I seem to recall that if they have a squadron on nights that daytime flying starts a bit later but hopefully somebody local can confirm.
Where are the best/easiest (for access/parking) places to grab photo's, I'll read the guides beforehand I know it may be busy as apparently the Indian's are in that week also, I don't mind parking somewhere that keeps landowners/police happy & hiking it to the locations, I'm not one to rock up & park where it causes friction.
Thanks in Advance & I can't wait to see some Tiffies in action.
