Couple of videos from an interesting movement last Monday where a C-17 popped into RAF Northolt to pick up a VH-60 after the Obama visit. Bit of confusion before he arrived, Northolt OPS called police requesting a road closure while it landed, numerous resources were scrambled to the West End Road, everyone pushed right back away from the yellow fence only to find a Cessna bizjet on the approach, a fellow spotter rightly informed them that the C-17 was still 20 minutes out.
Excellent video, capturing something quiet rarely seen at Northolt. I just wonder why, as the VH-60 it bought was just a back up machine, they went to the trouble of getting a C17 into Northolt ? Couldn't they have delivered/collected it from the Hall, with it making it's own way there and back? Not really complaining as it was a sight to behold, just wish I had been there to see it.
Thanks for your comments, everyone was excited to see it come in (myself included)
I was thinking the same thing Pete, apparently the VH-60 was a spare ready to cover in case a VH-3 went tech (Northolt closer to London than the 'Hall). Ironically the C-17 which made it to Northolt was a backup aircraft from Ramstein as the one which was supposed to arrive from Mildenhall hours earlier also went tech. Must have caused a bit of a ball-ache for them!
