B52 crash in Guam

Post by PhilW » Thu May 19, 2016 2:47 am

Apologies if this has been posted already.
A B52 has crashed in Guam, but thankfully the crew of 7 got out OK.
No doubt more info will be available later.

Reported (not confirmed) as 60-0047 on Facebook and Scramble if anyone is interested. I wonder if they will pull another out of the boneyard?

Believe this one visited Fairford at some point last year.

From the photo's can only presume the fire occurred after the impact or at least gave the crew time to escape uninjured (as reported).
A great job by the pilot to make that possible.

Edit: Spelling!

If it was this B-52 - yes it was at Fairford last year- named 'Neanderthall'

- Glad the crew all got out OK

The ever popular publication in these parts "Pacific Daily News" reports that the accident followed an aborted take off. I read the same elsewhere.

Clearly not the same as "shortly after take off".

The many photo's available could easily be of the aircraft still on the airfield having run off the end of the runway. That could also help explain how the crew thankfully all escaped uninjured, no ground impact occurred.

A reason for aborting could have been it was on fire, buts that speculation. They usually publish the details in due course.

The following post is on Scramble (but with my emphasis)
read somewhere! multiple birdstrike during take off, take off aborted, 2 engines caught fire. Don't know if it's true but sounds plausible to me.

Seen pictures of her on FB's B-52 page and there's not much left un-burned
