Kempsford 2010

Post by beefsteak » Sun Jul 18, 2010 6:48 pm

As folk are asking about thoughts on RIAT, I thought I'd ask those of you/ us who stopped at Kempsford for your thoughts.

On the negative side :- The cost of food !! , I mean £7.00 for a plate of Curry and rice is a bit steep!, and the Saturday night band , what the hell was that all about??
We (An age range of teenage 50 odd year olds, down to twenty something funsters, all left in a state of bemusement after half an hour of ?? I can't think of a word to successfully describe it with out being rude!! Where's the entertainment in listening to a bloke in a dress screaming songs at you ?? old classics such as "Whisky in the jar" and"A message to you Rudy" (The latter still heard at daft decibels from the far side of the campsite!) did not have a penny whistle played throughout them , and certainly not to the same tune both times!!
And lastly , the showers , did anybody get a warm one ?? no matter when any of us went, they were freezing!!

On the plus side :- It didn't rain heavily enough to churn up the fields , the choice of real ales / ciders was excellent, the company was great, (Although I do appogise to Tom for breaking his chair!!) And was it me or where there a lot less ignoramus's with generators blaring out till 3 o'clock in the morning this year??

We (my 2 young boy's and myself) camped at Kempsford for the first time - Friday to Sunday.
I thought the food was OK, but agree that the curry was very overpriced considering that i enjoyed the noodles the night before at £6.50 and they were in a different league!....I think that next year they should try to provide a little more choice and re-think those prices!

The beer choice and bar etc was a great surprise and fairly priced...

We heard from others that the showers were cold.......we were brave enough to try them on Saturday night and was relieved to find that they were warm!! I thought that the toilet facilities were ok also considering that they were portaloo's!!

The weather, thankfully held up but when we arrived on Friday afternoon, the ground was dry and grassy..a short while later the heavens opened and after 20 mins, the site became quite muddy, quite quickly.....but again, it dried out quite well over the course of the weekend.

The band on Friday night were great...Saturday's band, as Beefsteak previously mentioned were a bizarre bunch, I mean the guy was just shouting and screaming through a load of folk songs....pointless!

I would have liked to have seen 'security' or 'staff' walk the site at night to keep an eye on things as we heard about a couple of drunks on Friday at the rear field causing a nuisance and some lighting around the site at night would have been very helpful.....especially for those nightly trips to the portaloo's!!

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Kempsford, a great atmosphere, seemed to be well organised and we are likely to return next year as long as we can afford it as we think overall it was an expensive weekend.

The Good,
Bar Staff, selection and prices were excellent.
Company Excellent

The Average
Showers, One cold, one lukewarm, two hot.
Atmosphere, seemed a little subdued this year.

The Bad
Saturdays band, awful should have been pulled off stage early (if it's not working it's not working), we were amongst the last to leave every other night but everyone was tucked up in bed by about 11 because of them. That lad with the penny whistle is lucky he isn't tooting when he farts this week.

Food, Overpriced, no healthy option, my arteries are creaking this week.

Just to let you all know how awful they looked, they sounded even worse.
I've never gone back to the the tent so early on a Saturday night at Kempsford before, they were AWFUL,it's not funny - we all paid a lot of money to be there and this was a complete pi5s-take.

Vic Reeves doing his pub singer bit sounds better than this crowd did.

I can honestly say, i've seen many many bands play, and these are without doubt the worst i've ever heard, except maybe Jason and the Scorchers.
