Viewing & Photography At Leeming

Post by bigboy » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:40 am

Guys,

On holiday week after next, holidaying in North Yorks hoping to get to Leeming for a day, could someone give me advice on areas to go for taking photo's and viewing, I know there is a viewing area, just seems along way from the runway.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bigboy :D

What happened to the old coach park at the Londonderry end of the airfield? Is this not accesible anymore?

Hi Guys,
You can still get to the crash gate near the Londonderry truck park but your viewing a/c looking up onto the taxi way and you dont get much warning..Gatenby crash gate used to be the place to go but its not for public use..you could always ask the farmer at the end of the runway (34?)although dont take this as a deffo place to view.
The old scrap yard end is ok but the sun has to be in the right position and the road last time i was there had more pot holes than Helmand Province!..although you can get some good long talk down shots.

Hope this is of help

Kind Regards

Gary
At the end of the day..it gets dark and you cant see!!!!

there is a small open fence at the back of what is now a tranport cafe--watch out for turning lorries etc.--steps might be handy.
south end approach to 340 pass over and east of the A1-- and try and park sensibly --for t/off or land, you are a bit closer height wise to the aircraft.
There is no harm in asking the farmers politely, but no means no, and bulls aren't uncommon.
North end has already been discussed.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as knowing when is a good day.
The exercise on now may have some activity when you come this way.

Len..
Thanks for the info. :thumb:
