RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
I suggest that all F.C. members place a large sign in their cars.
"Take your rubbish home with YOU "
I doubt the message will get through to everyone so all FC's and enthusiasts. Perhaps some engagement when time and politely ask everyone to clear up after themselves.

Good idea. The police will not take kindly if they have to attend an "incident"of unrest at the fence.XWP29 wrote:I suggest that all F.C. members place a large sign in their cars.

When you arrive early do you park in the official parking area or in the forest entrance?Andy_99 wrote:As usual something interesting turn's up, people who'd normally show no interest arrive can't find anywhere sensible to park but don't spare a thought for everyone else, chuck litter everywhere & spoil it for the considerate of us out there.
I don't count myself as a regular but when I do visit ( a couple of times a year) I will make sure I arrive early enough to park considerately (When the F22's were over I arrived at 7:15am), keep hold of all my litter (FOD Everyone) & respect where I am.
When the F22's were over it was chaos. On the day I visited I stayed until the bitter end & picked up a whole carrier bag of detritus from the field under the approach, took it away with me & disposed of it at the Maccy D's I stopped at on my way up North.

What a surprise - didn't see this comingglencoe wrote:I am just the messenger ... I have been asked to post this .....
Just had an email from an official source that complaints are being received about the parking & litter being dropped at RAF Lakenheath, especially around The Forestry entrance ….. “that if parking doesn't become better at the forest entrance then it may be blocked and be access only by authorised vehicles.”
Please can anyone visiting park with due consideration for residents / work persons who use the entrance & take your rubbish home
Please can you forward to any groups, forums, Facebook pages etc.

Selfish human beings mess it up for everyone else shocker!!

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
The trouble is it's all the internet generation who wouldn't ever go to the place if these few F-35's weren't there; and they never bother with the place for the rest of the year. Thankfully in the days of Phantoms and F-111s based there, none of these idiots were aboutTeeJay wrote:Its not only just the selfish, idiotic and downright dangerous parking there thats the issue!!
Its the litter and rubbish they leave as well.... Everyone please please please, tidy up afteryourselves and TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME WITH YOU!!
....................So treat it with repect or loose it..... YOUR choice people!!

And the thing about 'losing it' won't bother them. The only ones who suffer are the genuine enthusiasts who treat the base with respect. These morons won't care less if the parking areas are all closed off because after the exercise they won't be back there again unless something else turns up.
Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
If someone wants to organise a litter patrol I'll offer my time to help the regular guys over the heath
Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Saw a guy just pull up right in the middle of the forest entrance last week and get out of his car. He stayed close to his car, so could have moved it if need be but that is not really the point. If a logging lorry driver has to stop and get the person to move his car, the lorry driver will not be too pleased and may well make a complaint.
To be fair to the guys there on Wednesday, when I pulled up in an already busy forest entrance, I stopped for a few seconds to assess whether I could navigate my way in to the one legitimate space that was left and immediately one chap came over and told me (nicely) not to park where I had stopped. Fair play to him for taking responsibility.

Similar thing happened, I was driving near my village, quiet road....a. .....ole threw remains of a pie out of car window. I stopped, picked it up and followed him, stopped alongside him at traffic lights, beckoned to him, he opened his window, beautiful shot with remains of pie.
He chased after me, I stopped at a shop in the village he got out all 2 foot nowt of him, but changed his mind, I'm 6ft 2, and I wasn't covered in pie.

Hi Guys,
So there is a thread about Litter louts at Lakenheath and another regarding speeding etc in John's field over here at Midenhall , surely this cant be regulars can it ? Old cliche about "wonder what their homes are like?" comes to mind....sad state of affairs to be honest.

Hi. Have things been any better/quieter today? Is parking at Forest Gate still a no-no? Am thinking of making the journey over sometime this week. Regards

Sorry for any offence caused, albeit unintentionally
I have deleted my rant
I just wish people would respect what we have by grace and favour
It can and probably will be taken away from us if it reoccurs to the same extent

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Some of the part time wa@nkstains may not have enough time to view full time. Hardly a fair comment
Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Paddyboy,
Whilst I am only able to visit Lakenheath a couple of times a year I wouldn't dream of dropping any litter there at all.
For the record whilst slightly off topic I was at Fairford last year when the F35s flew into the UK for the first time, I observed two people who I know to be outspoken members of this forum (and no I'm not naming them) talking about how disgusting it was that the place was "flooded with f*cking normals" and then throwing a half eaten bag of chips into a hedge.
So lets not blame those who have a limited amount of time, and exonerate the hardcore enthusiast because I know for a fact that some people don't practice what they preach.
Perhaps the people who visit the viewing carpark at Lakenheath should dig into their pockets and have a collection the proceeds of which could be offered to the authorities in control to put in some litter bins or other such improvements to the local environment? (It often occurs to me that in a similar way those people who park their cars by the mound in Coningsby could have a whip round to fun some repairs to the little "access road" or other thing to benefit the land owner).

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Fully agree a totally ridiculous assumption that it is part time aviation enthusiasts who are responsible. There are plenty of litter louts and disrespectful enthusiasts who would class themselves as "full time" spotters; take into account the happenings at Stansted earlier this year, there are too many people who just think they can go where they want when they want on an airfield.
Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
I wish I could go and sit and Lakenheath and watch the planes . I love watching them but being a selfemployed private hire driver I don't really get the time . If I get some time I normally go to Marham . The last time I went to Lakenheath was last year on a weekend to take my little girl for a ride . I have my own scanner which I listen to in between jobs . Its an PSR-295 which I guess is old now but it dos its job . May be in the future I look to get a better one
But If you are a full time aviation enthusiast or part time you should always respect the highways and clean up after yourself.
Sorry if I have upset anyone

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
Sadly Paddyboy your comment re 'part time wa@nkstains' reads across as being arrogant and offensive. Usually you are one of the first to welcome newbies to the group and compliment peoples photos. I wonder what those folk are thinking now? As others have stated, many on this forum work full time and live a long way from Lakenheath. If they do not have the same opportunities as you to visit that does not make them any less of an enthusiast than yourself. A bit of humble pie may go a long way.

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
To be fair to paddy I think he was referring to people who have a temporary interest in planes that arises whenever something exotic turns up from America, such as B-52 or B-3 to Fairford or fighters to Lakenheath.
If you work or live miles from Lakenheath like most of us do or did but are still a spotter or enthusiast then that is entirely different.
Until recently i would only visit Lakenheath (or any airport) if I "needed" something there.
No problems with non spotters but as said above they should park sensibly. I saw one group park under 24 and take photos with phone cameras.

Sorry if I have unintentionally offended anyone
Mike (Slogen) is spot on: I was only referring to those persons who turn up once or twice a year just when something 'big' or unsual is on
No offence to anyone else ever intended
The viewing area was so close to being shut you would not believe it

Re: RAF LAKENHEATH : Parking & Litter Complaints
The rest of us knew what you meant Paddy.
Unfortunately these 'big' events (8 aircraft!) nowadays attract a bad element of people who don't care less what they do or what mess they make - as we witness in everyday life now. I'm just thankful these people weren't about when the F-111s and the like were about.
