Rescue 87? confirmed with Brize zone 119.0 that the U-2 is safely on the ground
Re: Notam 18th May 2020
Should be Rescue187.
If HMCG are involved it sounds like a pressurisation issue?

Re: Notam 18th May 2020
Rescue187 now departing the hold at FFD after the 'great display'..?!?!
Re: Notam 18th May 2020
It’s likely it was not directly involved and just happened to be in the area at the same and held due to emergency traffic.
Re: Notam 18th May 2020
No the CG heli was talking to FFD tower as inbound due to the emergency
Re: Notam 18th May 2020
Fair play, that’s a first! Must have been given the heads as it looks like he came straight from Cardiff.

Re: Notam 18th May 2020
The helicopter flew direct from St Athan to Fairford
Re: Notam 18th May 2020
There was lots of mention of undercarriage issues so perhaps the undercarriage display light was showing as on and the pilot could not tell whether the undercarriage was down or not. I doubt it was pressurisation or any other issue to do with the pilot as the chopper would have taken them to hospital.

Re: Notam 18th May 2020
Don't think so as when speaking to FFD tower on finals the pilot mentioned more than once that undercarriage was downthevulcan wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 10:21 amThere was lots of mention of undercarriage issues so perhaps the undercarriage display light was showing as on and the pilot could not tell whether the undercarriage was down or not. Agreed. Not sure what the problem was, just passing on what I heard on the scanner. Sounds like all is well thankfully

The helo is now flying down the Wye Valley at 100-500 feet presumably RTB with some sight seeing on the way

Re: Notam 18th May 2020
337 made a High Key followed by a Low Key recovery. Such a profile suggests an engine malfunction where the a/c glides in with little or no power. When it joined the VFR pattern the engine sounded as though it was throttled right back. This is one of the things they practise when circuit bashing so in an actual emergency its been well rehearsed. In fact, 071 had been practising these earlier.

Re: Notam 18th May 2020
IFE sounds like one some years back , undercarriage problem, Col Miles Buda and Joan London. they declared an IFE after they lost an AC Generator, also got a warning main wheels down , tail wheel up. landed ok after warnings reset without doing anything , put it down to ice
